The Centre for Teaching & Learning hosted this workshop, facilitated by Dr. Jason Donev, titled “Finding and Keeping Joy in Teaching,” on November 24, 2021.
Workshop Abstract: Teaching is hard mental labour, but it's also hard emotional labour. We often receive more training about the thinking portion of teaching than we receive about how to take care of ourselves as faculty members. This workshop will explore reflective practices to increase and maintain personal resilience in teaching. This resilience has helped the presenter find joy in teaching, appropriate boundaries and both personal and professional clarity in his work.
Facilitator Bio: Jason Donev is tenured at the University of Calgary and an adjunct professor at the University of Regina. His work has earned local and national awards for teaching and outreach. His scholarship has led him to investigate how our lives are shaped by the stories we tell ourselves, like how science fiction stories influence our views of science. Jason uses reflective practices to gain insights into being effective.
