In this session, Professor Julie Machnaik shares an overview of ECS101, Education for Justice: Knowledge, Schooling and Society, both web and remote course. Julie designed ECS101 as an online course and has been teaching both web and F2F for several years. With the shift to remote teaching in Fall 2020, Julie is co-teaching ECS101-010 F2F involving large lecture (125 students) and seminars. In this webinar, Julie shares the overall organization including course delivery of weekly synchronous Zoom sessions and asynchronous lectures/weekly tasks. Julie shares varied instructional approaches, use of flexible groups and group projects. She also provides examples of assignments (such as aesthetic representations, ePortfolios, URCourse blogs) and assessment tools (including the use of Poodll for audio feedback). Julie shares ideas for weekly learning tasks (entrance slips, 3-2-1s, sketchnotes, discussion forum, photos, google docs & slides, Jamboard, chat room quick writes) to ensure students are prepared for synchronous meetings without instructor overload of reading, responding, and grading.
